Beyond her role as a Major in the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department, Magee has a passion for education and community engagement. “I’ve always had an interest in empowering and helping children learn. Lead to Read KC has such a positive impact on the students lives where it changes their trajectory, not only educationally but also in terms of self-esteem and productivity.”

As a Reading Mentor, Tinner believes patience and positivity are key to his interactions with students. “A hi-five and a big smile keep them focused.” He understands the importance of creating a fun and engaging learning environment, emphasizing the power of praise and repetition.
Through incredible community support, we are currently approaching 1,600 volunteers across 30 schools. Every week, you, our Reading Mentors, bring the joy of reading to students, build their reading confidence, and deepen your standing as a community member that really cares.
