One Day, One Book
Does your organization want to make a meaningful impact on literacy in Kansas City? Join us for a One Day, One Book team-based volunteer reading event.
Literacy is a critical issue in our community — only 1 in 5 Kansas City students in public and charter schools are reading on grade level by third grade.
This challenge doesn’t just impact schools, it impacts our entire community, including businesses, as literacy is directly tied to workforce readiness and economic growth.
Through One Day, One Book, your team can be part of the solution. Volunteers will visit an elementary classroom at one of Lead to Read KC’s partner schools and read a specially selected book with students one-to-one for 30 minutes. Every student receives their own copy of the book, and every volunteer leaves inspired by the joy of connecting with a young reader.
We are able to extend this opportunity to just three organizations each semester. If your employee team wants to be considered, complete the submission form below. A minimum suggested donation of $250 covers the cost of the books while Lead to Read KC manages the details with each school and classroom.
Together, we can empower more students through reading and create a more literate Kansas City.
“Lead to Read made it so easy for Arvest to organize a group of our associates to read over a lunch hour! We’ve done it multiple times and they all turned out great. When needed, we were able to carpool from different areas of the city and had so much fun doing it together at a single school.”
